Welcome to the Photography Den!

If you happen to stumble on this blog through pure happenstance (not likely) then I will explain what everyone else already knows. This is My Photography blog for my digital Photography Class. My goals this semester include improving my photo skills and learning more about photography.

Here are some photos from the first assignment:

A worm's eye view of the yard (do worms even have eyes?)

Something beautiful made ugly (And rather sinister... that Rabbit's dynamite!)

  1. What I admire most about the two images that you chose to publish on your blog is their heightened sense of drama and transformation. You managed to transform two seemingly banal subjects into slightly sinister and active photographs. There is something almost narrative about these pictures. This act transformation is essential in photography. It is the job of the photographer to find a subject and use the camera to change, transform or emphasize that subject. These pictures exhibit successful transformation. Keep challenging yourself to use the camera to transform the visible world. See how light and shadow can heighten drama. Consider how framing and vantage point are tools that help a photographer to create a composition, not just record what's in front of the lens. When you compose your shots, engage the edges of the camera frame. Also consider how you can use the edge of the frame to reveal and conceal information, and thus perhaps heightening the drama and mystery. Good work. I look forward to seeing more images in the future.
